Digital Citizenship

This week we spent some time learning how to stay safe when online.
You can ask your child:
- who are the three people who you can share your passwords with?
- What do you know about Y.A.P.P.Y.?  Discuss this with your family!
    Your name
    Address
    Personal Information
    Password
    Your location

How can you be safe when you are searching online or playing games online?

Terry Fox Run

On Thursday our school participated in the Terry Fox Run.
As a class we discussed what words come to mind when we think about Terry Fox, what he did and what we o to honour Terry Fox.
Discuss with your family what Terry Fox means to you.

*Most Magnificent Thing*
Students are starting to explore the many possibilities in turning their boxes into magnificent things. We have tied in children literature including "What To Do With A Box," and "The Most Magnificent Thing."
Today the students explored the boxes they have brought in and are identifying its' features. Ask your child: What are you thinking of creating out of your box?   If you have not brought a box in yet, please do so by tomorrow (before recycling day).

Levels of Behaviour

We have implemented a behaviour system in class. The ABCD system is used to remind us what attitude and behaviour leads to the best learning for ourselves and others. Students discussed what helps them learn best and we shared how motivation can effect our learning.

Body Breaks

We take several body breaks throughout the day. These give our minds and bodies a break, allow for each of us to ground ourselves, recenter and then continue with our work. Our body breaks range from dancing, singing, games, mindfullness, or yoga. Here are a few we have tried this week.

September 20

We are going to be building the "Most Magnificent Thing's." We are asking that students bring in different size boxes over the next week that they can use to build their "thing." Bring as many as your child thinks they need. They can be varying sizes, but please refrain from sending any gigantic boxes. Please also write students name on their boxes.

The best learning can happen in an environment where students are respectful and responsible. We have been learning about different levels of behaviour. At first a classroom or school with no rules or expectations seemed like a great idea.  However, after some discussion we discovered that not having expectations or rules could make the classroom noisy and unsafe. The students even acted out what the classroom might look like if we allowed anarchy to rule, or were always bothering one another. It was definitely not conducive for rich learning.

Ask your child to show you  or describe what the classroom might look like if students were showing the A or B levels of behaviour.

Students sketched, labelled and counted sides and vertices for various 2D shapes. We also experimented with tangrams and made some very creative pieces of art using shapes.
