On Wednesday the whole school paraded around the school showcasing their costumes and amazing pumpkins. Our class was also busy enjoying Halloween themed activities. The students got to choose what their parents should dress up as for Halloween during Writing Workshop. We also wrote secret messages that other students had to solve for us. After our Pumpkinella Parade, we did some "glowga" (glow in the dark yoga).
I hope everyone that celebrated, had a safe and fun Halloween!
Makerspace
On Thursday we spent some time in the learning commons testing out some of our new S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) activities. We enjoyed building toothpick towers, Lego fidget Spinners and Mazes, as well as solving puzzles and building clothespin statues.
Here is what some of our students were saying:
"It is something you can work together as a group and
build our sharing and build something amazing with just 2 people." -Ethan
"1) it makes people have good friendship. 2) Its
challenging and that makes it soo soo much fun." -J.C.
"Lego maze was very fun because you had to give it an
end and a beginning." -Quinn
"Making the puzzle was difficult cause it was always
move, and we kept knocking into it."
-Farand
"It was hard to make our popsicle stick tower because
it kept falling over when you breathed on it." -Emma
"When we tried to make the maze harder we tried
going out the hole but it kept through the hole." - Victoria
"Next time I want to build a bigger base so that my
popsicle stick tower can get taller." -Anatol
Math:
We have been working on building number sense through our 100's chart. We have been using numbers charts to see number patterns. Ask your child how to play the game "Magic Cross" or even "Super Crazy Magic Cross." We have been reviewing skip counting by 2's and are working on skip counting by 3's, 4's, 5's and 10's. We have used an interactive 100's chart to help us.
You can practice skip counting at home by going to the following link< Interactive 100's Chart>
