We are learning some mental math strategies that help with addition. One of these is making 10's or making numbers 1 or 2 more or less than 10. Student looked at how the numbers to make 10 make a pattern.

This week we introduced a dice game that helps us with number sense, number order and three digit addition. Here are the rules.
Player 1
Roll 3 dice
Make the largest number you can using the three dice write it down
Player 2
Roll 3 Dice
Make the largest number you can using the three dice write it down
Both players repeat once more.
Add the two totals together. Don't forget to regroup if necessary.

The highest score wins the round. You can also play trying to get the lowest score.

Writing
We are working on building the main event in our writing. The Main Event has 5 important parts:
Action, Description, Thoughts/Feelings, Dialogue and Sound Effects.
Tell your parents what you have been writing about in class and remember to "show, not tell."
Library: We have library tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 21. Please remember to bring your books to return them.
Inline Skating: Our class will be inline skating March 8, 11 and 13. Consent forms are being sent home today. Please complete these forms and return them to Mr. Straiton by February 28.
